From 1955 onwards BMW were manufacturing under licence the Isetta 250, which was regarded as an absolutely typical child of the German economic miracle period. The key feature of the idiosyncratic Isetta was the steering column thatswung round on a cardan joint with the front door when it was opened. The "bubble car" was driven by a 250 cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine that had been developed from the engine of the BMW R 25/2 and delivered 12 hp.
