Hat Industrie : HAT9018 Republican Romans - Hastati. These Romans represented a time when Rome was young and still a Republic, when Consuls were voted into office and did not take office by force of arms. Interestingly the financial, political intrigues and scandals of those days are very much similar to modern day America's. Rome was just coming into its own and at this time was battling Carthage for supremacy of the Mediterranean, which it won. Our set represents the Hastati. Tactics called for a screen of skirmishers and a main battle line of 3 lines. Our Hastati were the first line which would throw their pila and engage with swords. If the enemy did not break, the 2nd line would come up to engage. Our Hastati were young men which meant they were moderately well armed and armored . Silver, bronze, white, tan, 4 poses, 16 figures/box.
