In 1936, this T2 type was also adopted by the US Marine Commission in order to ensure supplies in the event of war. A total of 520 vessels of the T2 class were built. The ESSO "Glasgow" belongs to the sub-class T2-SE-A1. It was equipped with a 6600 hp steam turbine engine and had a displacement of 21,926 tonnes & a maximum speed of 15 knots. Although the T2 tankers were built by a rapid construction process, some of them remained in service at sea for a long time, even for over 40 years. They primarily carried raw oil, fuels & other refinery products.
