The Roswell UFO

Extraterrestrial Spacecraft that allegedly crashed at 11:59 p.m. on July 4, 1947. Based on drawings forensically composited by William Louis McDonald from interviews with witnesses and from the case files of authors Capt. Kevin D. Randle, USAF Reserve, and Donald R. Schmitt.

"It's a U.F.O. Jim but not as we know it"

The availability of Sci-Fi models is usually restricted to the Star Wars/Trek genre. The Testors Roswell UFO would perhaps not be considered Sci-Fi by some conspiracy theorists but it is one of the few kits where the scale modeller can use some imagination.
The kit is moulded in neutral grey with a transparant cover to the crew compartment and 'sensor array'. The illustration on the box is obviously the prototype and the kit has a more tinted look to the transparancies which is a shame as it obscures a lot of the detail including the excellent decals.
I sprayed the top surface with Humbrol silver but used aluminium for the crew compartment. The detailed instruction sheet states the interior and seating should be silver but I used light and dark matt red for the seats and gold leaf for the 'reactor'. For the the alien crew I used matt grey for the uniforms and matt linen for heads and hands. ( I decided the 'flesh' suggested was not alien enough.)
The parts go together reasonably well although why Testors did not mould the internal bubbles with the canopy rather than individualy is a mystery as it is almost impossible to not get adhesive 'bleed' around these tiny componants. The clamshell construction takes a fair amount of clamping to get it right and the canopy is not a particularly good fit. When completed the model sits on its dispay stand, an interesting example of an unusual model. Now, if someone would just re-release the old Aurora 'Moon Rocket' kit that'd be grand!
