The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is the undisputable symbol of Cold War air power, becoming the bomber par excellence in the common language. A total of 744 B-52s were built, in seven main versions, the last of which entered into service in the USAF in 1962.  B-52Gs participated in the Vietnam War and in Desert Storm, accumulating every type of record in terms of the duration and effectiveness of the bombardment missions. The last B-52Gs were retired from front line service in 1994, leaving only the subsequent B-52H in the ranks of the USAF.
